On a whim we decided to stop by and see if our old landlord was still working at the apartment complex where we used to live when we first moved to New Mexico in 1992. She was! Nancy was like a Mama to me while I was in New Mexico. She and her two daughters took care of me when John had to fly back to Maryland to tie up loose ends with our job transfers, and when I had to have neck surgery from a job injury. She was always understanding and full of humor regarding our pets and we felt right at home in our first New Mexico home.
Nancy just turned 56, but she still looks the same as when we first moved here. Her daughters are in their middle 20s, but I remember them as pre-teens rollerskating all around the complex! It was just so wonderful seeing Nancy again.
This is a picture of our apartment complex, The Beach apts.
For anyone fascinated with architecture, Antoine Predock is a local 'celebrity' who has influenced the world with his awe inspiring, breathtaking projects. We first became familiar with him when we moved to Albuquerque 16 years ago and lived in the Predock designed "The Beach Apts", which is now directly across from the ABQ Aquarium and Botanic gardens. I can't imagine living in a more unique and creatively inspiring apartment community. We often had architecture and photography students camped outside of our apartments trying to catch the best light to showcase the beautiful structures. At night, the entire structure is lit by impressive neon lights to showcase the angles.
And on the back side of the building, all of the apartments have peaceful views of stately cottonwoods and green golfcourse open space.
Predock has also designed a large number of buildings in the Albuquerque area, including:
