Mirrors, Water and Music

With all the snow we had, we had lots of water when it began to melt. Jackson was fascinated with the visual and accoustic effects he could create with mirrors, water, and different containers.

He positioned the mirror to reflect the downward dripping of the water from the roof, and as a result we were able to feel as if the water was dripping towards us, instead of directly on the mirror. Cool stuff!

By placing the buckets at different locations, filling them with liquid, rocks, sand or wood, Jackson was able to experiment with different musical rhythms and tonal sounds.
I must admit that I sat on the back porch in my rocking chair for quite a long time enjoying the hypnotic, relaxing sounds of the water music that Jackson created. Who says one needs to spend lots of money on 'real' instruments and music lessons? There is music all around us, especially in nature.
