Mural Hunting on Historic Rt 66

Jackson & Jeremiah have been wanting to cruise down historic Rt. 66 ever since they watched the movie Cars. We decided to make it more fun by 'hunting' for some of the beautiful and creative murals painted on many of the Rt. 66 buildings along the way. In this way we blended the historic culture with the art culture.

Because we were hunting murals using a camera, Jackson and Jeremiah were excitedly discussing how they wanted to create a special 'camera gun' so that trophy hunters might still get the thrill of hunting animals, but without actually having to kill the animal to place on their wall as a trophy.

Instead the trophy hunter would point the realistic looking gun at an animal and it would take a picture that could be easily blown up and framed, even adding some creative words, like "I shot the big one", or "My trophy 'buck...bear...or whatever".
They are aways coming up with creative alternatives with new inventions.

We discovered this unique and colorful "Stone Mountain" mural. We discussed how most of the images are statues and probably made of stone. They pointed out the pyramids and stonehedge style tiki statues. They liked finding the details of the Statue of Liberty and the Sphynx. Jeremiah noticed how 'billowy and big' the painting style was.

This was our favorite mural and we spent about 20 minutes walking around it while appreciating the details, muted colors and dicussing the meaning behind the scenes.
The boys called it the 'transportation through the ages' mural, and it seems to fit pretty good.

Jeremiah spied this mural and was so excited to 'shoot it' because it reminded him of his Papaw, who has always been a cowboy at heart.
