One account, or twin accounts?

Today we took Jackson and Jeremiah to the bank to start their own savings account/s. Try as we might we couldn't convince them to each have their own separate accounts. They wanted a Joint Account, one to share, just as they do with all other things in their lives. They didn't want to be separate, even with their money.

I think back to my own tween years and I can't ever imagine me wanting to share a savings account with a sibling. I'm sure if it had been brought up (if I had had a sibling) I would have said, "Are you nuts?!" No, my stuff, was mine and I didn't care to share.
So, it awes both John and I how much our twin sons insist on sharing everything, when they don't always have to. We try to always give them options so they can have something of their own that doesn't need to be shared. But they usually won't have it.

We've told them that if we can build a new house they can each have their own bedrooms, but they don't even want to talk about it. They do like the idea of having a playroom/recreation room, but they still want to share a room together.

When they play video games, they insist on teaming up together, never playing against each other. They want to be the Great Twin Avengers, the Dos Amigos, The Dynamic Duo. They don't even like playing single player video games. It's too lonely without your twin.

And I think it's pretty darn cool to have someone so amazingly special in their lives, to share such a unique and deep relationship.
A relationship that goes back to the day of conception, to the days when they didn't know what the other one looked like or felt like...only what the sound of the other's heartbeat sounded like. That's what a twin relationship is.

But, somehow the bank official was able to convince Jax and Jem that having their own separate accounts could be beneficial, and they believed her, and now they have their own bank accounts, and they were very excited to come home and show off all the goodies they were given for being new account holders.

Jackson holding all of his and Jeremiah's money in a plastic bag, about $20.00, on their way to the bank to open their accounts.

Jax and Jem's bank goodies! Lots of chocolate coins, some balloons (that Jenna grabbed up right away) two cool pens that twist into a a pencil and a stylus, too. Also these really unique thing-a-ma-bobs that are like a Swiss Army tools set, with a measuring tape, a leveler, pad of paper w/ cover and an attached pen. And it attaches to a belt, too! Jax and Jem were thrilled! (Jem wrote on his pad of paper, "Mama is the Best!" (Aaawww! That's my sweet boy!)
