Park City, Utah~Letterboxing

I'd always wanted to explore the other side of the Utah Valley Mountains, especially Park City and the Winter Olympics 2002 Venue, so today we took a drive through the steep, majestic canyons and green, beautiful valleys from Provo to Park City.

And of course there were letterboxes to find!

First we stopped off at the Olympic Welcome Center in Park City to explore and find the "Moose" letterbox. It had started raining, but we came prepared with umbrellas!Afterwards we crossed over I-80 to hike a short nature trail and find the "Olympic" letterbox. Great stamps!
Then we drove back over I-80 to search for the "Swaner Box", a super easy drive-by with gorgeous views and beautiful nature trails. Click on the photo for a larger view. Notice the Winter Olympic Venue's Competitive Ski Slope. Wow!
Another view of the Winter Olympic's Venue. We were going to head up there to take a tour, but the boys wanted to find some more letterboxes and explore instead. So, we were off to find some uniquely placed letterboxes....(See below)
We all got a huge kick out of the "Bark City" box, when we only had to walk into the Bark City Pet Emporium and ask the owner for the letterbox! Fun!!
Another cleverly placed letterbox was found by us at the Summit County Library.....inside a library book! Very cool! We had a blast searching for the book and then stealthily logging and stamping-in!
On the way back to Provo, through Park City, we had wanted to hike the McLeod Creek Trail and find a letterbox, but instead drove through an amazing deluge. So, we had to pass on finding the "Mountain Trails Foundation" box. The drains and gutters were backed up and the streets were flooded and pouring over the curbs. I took this photo from my window.
We took a little side-trip to the Jordonelle Dam and Overlook to enjoy the gorgeous views and find the "Utah's State Animal" box. Terrific stamp and easy find, too!

Breathtaking views of Heber City and it's bucolic valley covered in green acres and grazing horses and cows.
We stopped off for a potty break and some playground time at a pretty park in Heber City. Jackson, Jeremiah and I liked this sculpture, so Jax took a photo of it. Interestingly enough, when I spoke of the statue, I said, "Great sculpture of a man on horse", Jeremiah said, "Cool statue of a man with a rifle". Two different perspectives. Isn't that fascinating? Jackson took a super photo, too.
On the way back through Provo Canyon, Jackson and Jeremiah asked me to stop so they could scope out the Bridal Veil Falls, where a letterbox has been placed. The trail is very steep and rocky and the clues include a warning, so I discounted this particular letterbox as too difficult, and didn't even print up the clues.

But while we were scoping the area out and enjoying the views, we watched as a family of 6 with young children climbed up and down the rocky trail beside the falls. So, Jax and Jem insisted that they wanted to climb the trail and find this box. We'll come back tomorrow morning and try it out. Should be exciting! (Click on the photo for a larger view. Notice the family climbing just to the right of Jackson's shoulder)
