Some may say that sharing exciting potty news on a Blog is in bad 'taste' (not the best word in this case!), but we are so tickled happy that we could burst! (probably another word not best suited to this subject....).
Anyway, things have been so different in raising our daughter then the way we started out with our sons. With our sons it was always do what the "experts' said and when the 'experts' said to do it, rather than trusting our own God given parental instincts. We begged, pleaded, bribed, used reverse psychology, yelled, used time-outs...you name it! It was most unpleasant and something we didn't want to repeat with future children.
Even with breastfeeding we allowed our daughter to choose when the time was right for her, same with co-sleeping, food choices, everything. We talk about everything together, and share our ideas and opinions and feelings but we don't manipulate our daughter to do our bidding. It really works and is so much more peaceful, too.
Some busy-body, know-it-all 'experts' would complain that a 4 year not completely potty trained is a darn shame. We disagree. A child forced to potty train is a darn shame. A child made to feel ashamed because they still wear diapers or have accidents is a shame. When a child is ready, then they are ready.
Thankfully we have a wonderful pediatrician who agrees and shares our same philosophies as well, so we have not worried what the other 'experts' say.
Recently, Jenna started using the potty all on her own. She just one day said, "Mama, I'm going to use the potty today!" Whoohoo!
What is so funny about her new potty routine is how she goes a little bit in the pot, then asks us to empty the pot, then goes a little bit more, and asks us to empty the pot.....until she has done this several times...and we are all dazed and amazed at how so much poo can come out of such a little girl! Even Jax has been pitching in with emptying Jenna's potty. We are all so gosh darn proud of her!!
Jenna is ready in her own time.
Jenna so excited pointing to....well, you know.
And there IT is! And yes...Mama did the Potty Dance!!
