Poetry, Tea, and Chess

Gretchen, one of our Homeschool Co-op moms hostessed a wonderful event that incorporated poetry reciting, chess and other game playing, and tea.
We all brought some snacks and 'tea food', and some games to share. The kids socialized playing chess, checkers, Yugioh, and other board games. Jenna and some of the other girls played in Gretchen daughter's room together with toy horses, dinosaurs, and doll houses, too.

And a little later, many of the kids got up and shared some of their favorite poetry, either read aloud or memorized. Some kids even sang their poetry and others were happy to share more than one poetry reading. Two things that impressed me the most were how eager the kids were to stand up in front of everyone to read poetry. This is not something one would see in a public school classroom.
Another thing exciting to see was how supportive and positive all of the children were during and after each child stood up to share their poetry.
There was such a good feeling from all the children and adults.

Yet another situation that re-confirms the many reasons why our family decides to homeschool our children.
