Why we love Letterboxing

We get asked quite often about our hobby of letterboxing and what it is, and why we enjoy it so much.

For our homeschooling family, it encompasses our views of the whole world as our classroom, because letterboxing involves many things, including geography, map skills, science, nature, math, history, social studies, and exploration skills.

Letterboxing gets us out there exploring places we'd probably never visit, if it weren't for another letterboxer placing a special box there to discover and learn about the area.
We end up going to so many unique places. Many that only locals know about, and some that not even the locals know about! hehe

And most of all letterboxing is just plain fun!

Here is what I borrowed from our favorite letterboxing sites:

Letterboxing is an intriguing pastime combining artistic ability with delightful "treasure-hunts" in beautiful, scenic places that the whole family can enjoy. Participants seek out hidden letterboxes by following clues, and then record their discovery in their personal journal with the help of a hand-carved rubber stamp that's part of the letterbox. In addition, letterboxers have their own personal stamps which they use to stamp into the letterbox's logbook.

Letterboxing has a rich history crossing continents and centuries of time. It all started in 1854 Dartmore, England.
