It's been almost a year since we adopted our 3 guinea pigs from
Save-A-Cavy Rescue in Rio Rancho, NM. So, I decided to visit Steve from Save-A-Cavy to show off our piggy boys and our other two piggies we adoptedin June through Freecycle.
It was so great visiting with him again and seeing all of the amazing work he is still doing with guinea pigs. He and his family have such a generous heart for these wonderful little creatures. They have terrific veterinarians who perform life-saving surgeries and care for these often lowly-disregarded 'rodents'.
Steve has over 40 guinea pigs in his care at any given time. He rescues them from animal shelters in NM, out-of-state organizations and individuals who don't want their cavies anymore.
He cares for them, nurses them back to health, and finds them new homes. I am so pleased we adopted our piggies through Save-A-Cavy because our 3 boys were healthy, beautiful and socialized.
Steve seemed happy with how big strong, healthy, very calm and relaxed our pigs are. He couldn't get over how handsome, social and laid back they are. Of course, our guinea pigs are kept in the middle of our daily activities and they are taken with us to the park and social activities where they are held and petted. They know they are safe and cared for.
It felt great that Steve noticed these things about our guinea pigs and that he knew he had chosen a good forever home for the guinea pigs he gave to us last winter. Oftentimes, animal rescuers don't receive any updates after an animal is adopted. Steve took a bunch of "pigtures' with his new fancy camera and then he burned a disc for me to have. He's a great guy!
