Sharks!~Rio Grande Aquarium

The crowning jewel of the aquarium is this huge ocean tank with a movie theater size viewing window. The ocean tank is stocked *full* of sharks: tiger, nurse, blacktip and sand. They are amazing to observe. We also enjoyed the other fish that swam with the sharks, including porcupine puffer fish, jacks, manta rays, sea turtles, grunts, and more. We sprawled out in front of this great window for over and hour, just gazing at these amazing creatures.

At 2pm a docent came in the large room to talk about the animals in the ocean exhibit, while a diver swam down to feed the manta rays, which resemble happy puppy dogs begging for treats, as they swim and slide all over the diver's head and body. The manta ray's mouth is so cute while it munches on it's meal, and we enjoyed the diver/docent presentation and learned quite a bit about the animals and the aquarium.

Jenna liked the lobster grotto, because they reminded her of our 'Lobster Mobster" crawdad at home, which by the way, is doing great, has learned how to hunt, and has already eaten 5 of the minnows that we bought for him a week ago. He's an interesting creature to watch and we are glad he lives with us now. Read on for some more on our visit to the Rio Grande Aquarium.
