New Driver
Jackson & Jeremiah have been itching to drive Daddy's new John Deere tractor. John has been cautious about letting them try it because of safety and also because he just loves cruising around on our acreage driving his big, powerful green machine. haha
But yesterday Jackson got his turn. After John mowed a small grassy side yard close to the house.
But first a couple pics of my happy cowpokes.

Jackson eagerly jumped on the John Deere and listened intently to Daddy's instructions. Jackson was escatic!
Daddy walked beside him just like he did when Jackson rode his bike alone for the first time.
And then Jackson was on his own. He is pretty intense and thrilled.
Happy kid!
Driving like a natural!
Jackson was like a wild tractor driver. If there was a blade of grass to be mowed...or a hill to conquer, he was on it!

Berry Picking
Wish we had some human-edible berries to pick, like blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries, but for now Jenna enjoys picking juniper berries. She feeds them to the llamas and goats who eagerly eat every single berry all gone.

An Afternoon on the Ranch
We have a great time on our little ranch high up in the mountains. We like to explore our land and play with the animals.....and climb trees.
Here's Jackson climbing one of our Pinon Nut Trees. Yikes!
And Jenna likes to play in the barn and climb the hay bales.

Kite Flying
With all the breezy weather we've had, Jackson and Jeremiah are having a ball flying their kites. I love that we now have the space to fly kites safely on our own land, too. Jackson is the most focused on kite flying. He seems to like anything that flies or can be controlled with his hands or mind. Which explains his love of rocketry, too. Both Jeremiah and Jackson enjoy getting their kites up really high in the sky, though.

Jackson pleased as punch to see his kite riding a thermal.
Looking up at the kite.
Cataleya, our female llama, and Luna, our female angora goat checking out what Jackson is up to.
Our neighbor's 3 horses not quite sure if that flying thing in the sky is going to swoop down and eat them.
The kite flying high over our house.
Annie, Scout and Nadia watching from a safe distance.
Catlinite, our male llama joins the viewing audience, too.

Jenna's 4-H Project~Chickens/Eggs
It was quite ironic that Jackson chose the Usborne Chicken and Egg book when he won Bingo at the Valentine's Day party this week. Jenna is signed up to work on a 4-H project called "Chickens and Eggs"! So a wonderful book about chickens and eggs could not be more perfect.
And Usborne makes such beautiful and informative books for all ages. We are enjoying this one quite a bit.
I took a few pictures of the inside in case anyone may be on-the-fence considering buying Usborne books for their children (and no, I do not work for or sell Usborne books! hehe)

Some of the other educational books that Usborne publishes in this same line.
Our main problem with Jenna's 4-H project, is that she can't decide which chicken she'd like to have as her 4-H project and to show in the State Fair! She loves her two Speckled Sussex: Kipper and Spotty Dotty....and they seem to love her, too. Our Speckled Sussex are the most tolerant, patient and friendliest of all of our chickens.
And the Barred Rock, Silver-Laced Wyandottes, and Ameracaunas are also very special, too.
Jenna spends alot of time with her chickens and is outside almost every day playing with them, petting and holding them and just plain socializing all of the chickens. And it truly shows.
We originally thought Jenna would choose her pretty Ameracauna, she named "Angelina Ballerina".
All of the chickens (well maybe not as much with the Brown Leghorns) seem to enjoy Jenna's presence. So it will be difficult to choose just one chicken for her 4-H project.

Snow Delays and Imagination
The Barn Addition Project is slowly moving forward on our ranch. Due to the fierce, bone-chilling wind, blowing snow flurries, and boot-sucking mud, the construction guys have to squeeze their work into brief pockets of 'clearer' weather. But it really is getting done. You can read and see more by clicking the ranch link here:

The day after...
.....the maelstrom. The wind was really brutal last night and its still blowing hard today with gusts of up to 50mph. On the way to Jeremiah's guitar lesson we saw a few fences blown down, some trees uprooted and blown into the wind, and I tried to stay steady on the road as the wind buffeted me towards the road berms.
I took a few pics of the snow on our property, along with some wind damage.
For more pics, click here:
~Snow llamas~
The huge branch that was trimmed off of one of our trees for the barn addition, blew halfway down our pasture hill.(Click pics for larger views) (Notice the llama sleeping in the barn)
Jenna's basketball hoop, which is terribly heavy and filled with wet sand, finally met it's match and tumbled onto the trampoline.
