Jackson & Jeremiah's Explora Class focused on Forest Ecology. I didn't take any photos this week, because the stodgy instructor didn't seem to little-person friendly, so I decided to take Jenna out of the class to do some one-on-one Science exploring, just the two of us.
But Jackson & Jeremiah seemed to enjoy the class and learned some new things they shared with me.
The term forest ecology describes an area inhabited by more than one organism, or bio-mass. Forest ecology concentrates on the ecosystem of a forest. Logically, trees are an important component of forest research, but the wide variety of other life forms and abiotic components in most forests means that other elements, such as wildlife or soil nutrients, are often the focal point. Thus, forest ecology is a highly diverse and important branch of ecological study.
The kids studied the soil of a forest, including water tables and life forms that are found in soil. They learned about how trash impacts the soil, water and quality of forest life.
