Wowsa! So, I wonder if this rain will make a difference in the drought we've been having?There is so much water, that it is starting to take longer for it to drain through the sand. It's as if the ground is becoming too saturated with all the moisture, if that's even possible here in New Mexico?
The erosion on the mesas in Rio Rancho and the water damage in the city of Albuquerque is shocking, everything is either being washed over with water, mud and silt, or else being washed away by the strength of the rushing water.
While we have been out we've seen asphalt roads and concrete dividers ripped from the ground and dropped into arroyos. We've seen cars slipping and sliding in 4" deep water puddles across the roads. We driven across roads where the shallow dirt arroyos couldn't keep up with flow and overflowed instead, flooding the roads with foamy, muddy water.
And the concrete arroyos are flowing so deep and fast, anyone who might fall in would be surely swept away to their death. And through it all the desert keeps getting greener and lusher, and the temperatures get muggier during the day and cooler at night.
The rain has snuck into our garage and also created mini lakes in our yard, surprising our rabbit, Liberty, who must think she is soon to be traveling in a boat during the next rainy barage. I have been told that the monsoons will be over soon. In the previous years of our life in New Mexico, I cannot recall a wetter monsoon season. Even though I love thunderstorms and watching lightning, I am starting to feel like the rain has overstayed it's welcome......rain...rain...go...away.....
