Our Guinea Pigs

We started our adopting 3 Guinea pig boars from Save A Cavy in Rio Rancho, NM. Save A Cavy is a wonderful rescue where the guinea pigs are saved from bad situations and found new forever homes.
The pigs we adopted we named Taco, Nacho, S'mores.

Then someone on Freecycle needed to find a good home for, what they believed to be a Papa guinea pig and a baby boy guinea pig. We named
them Coconut (the Papa) and Marshmallow.
Turned out when we got them home, I discovered that the 'little boy' was actually a sow, and the damage was already done. Marshmallow was pregnant. Sows' gestation is between 65-70 days. Several weeks later, she gave birth to just one beautiful little sow baby. We named the baby Meringue after we held a contest on our favorite cavy group on Yahoo called "Guinea Pig Society".
So we now have 6 piggies.
Guinea pigs are the perfect small pet. They are friendly and non-aggressive with proper socialization. They don't bite and are happy to see you, especially if they think you have treats. They are easy to clean up after. They like to be held and brushed and they are quiet, unless they hear you open a plastic bag or chop veggies....WHEEK! WHEEK!
