April Fools Day~The joke's on us

I've never much cared for April Fools Day and the pranks and jokes that go along with it. I've been known to have a silly streak, but I don't need a specific day to share it with others.

Anyway, today wasn't very funny at all. Our 10 year old dear, sweet loving bunny, Charlotte, who've we've adored for about 4 years, was buried today.

She had been getting sick for a while, losing weight, even though she ate very well. We discovered a mammary tumor a few months that steadily grew bigger, but we still held out hope nonetheless.

I am grateful that she was able to spend her last weeks in her favorite happy places. With all the warm Spring weather we've had, Charlotte spent alot of time outside, hopping, exploring and stretched out in the warm rays of sunshine.

Charlotte enjoyed sitting beside Jenna when Jenna played in the sandbox area. And I always enjoyed it when Charlotte laid down beside my rocking chair on the back patio while I rocked, petted and chatted with her. She had the most calming way about her when being petted; her eyes would droop and her teeth would chatter happily while we stroked her ears, under her dewlap and chin and between her eyes. She was the most affectionate and docile bunny I've ever had the honor of owning.

Charlotte was also John's favorite bunny, too. And Jackson was very fond of her and enjoyed giving her carrots, apple, banana, and romaine lettuce, which Charlotte loved.

I'm happy that we were able to adopt her when she was 7 years old, rescuing her from a University Agricultural Breeding Program, before they decided to send her to a soup kitchen because of her age.
She was named for Charlotte, NC where she had lived those first 7 years of her life. She lived with us in South Carolina for another 2 years and then we brought her out to New Mexico when we moved back home again Jan 2006. I hope she enjoyed living with us, as much as we enjoyed having her in our lives, too.

Rest in peace, Charlotte. God Speed over the "Rainbow Bridge"

We were able to spend time saying goodbye during Charlotte's last moments.

She felt so gaunt and thin, but still so beautiful. It's hard to believe she's gone.

We dug a burial spot for her in the backyard.

Charlotte's gravesite.

Charlotte's grave is near our other bunny, Schubert's, grave and our baby guinea pig, Meringue's gravesite. They both passed on last October.

This is my first visit to your blog. I am so sorry for the loss of your bunny. It hurts to lose our pets, and they enrich our lives so much! Hugs to all of you.
